Sometimes circumstances throw people together and sometimes circumstances get a helping hand.
When I was shortlisted for the Mslexia Novel Prize, I decided that it would be nice to get to know the other writers on that list, so, I contacted the Mslexia office, which put all of us in touch, who wanted to be in touch.
We are nine. We wrote nine of the final twelve books to be selected for the shortlist of the inaugural novel writing competition, which, I suppose, makes us all women novelists. If you are the tenth member of that list, you are still very welcome to come and say hello, and, perhaps join us in our venture. The eleventh and twelfth novelist (she had two books in the last dozen) is the winner of the prize, Rosie Garland. I’m guessing that Rosie is more than a little busy with her career at the moment, but I’m sure she’ll be in touch, and I hope she’ll be our guest here in due course.
The rest of us don’t know each other very well yet, but the plan is to stay in touch, to write, here, about our experiences on the road to publishing our novels, and to share the support that we can offer to each other.
Welcome aboard, and welcome, too, to anyone who’d care to read along and follow our adventures, individually and as a group.

What an excellent idea. Congratulations on being shortlisted (all of you!). I look forward to seeing how this blog develops and hope it inspires more than a few shoebox novelists (into which category I suppose I fall) to take that leap of faith. Good luck.
